Impact of Xiaoqinglong Decoction on Lung Function and Serum Cytokines in Patients with Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease |

Abstract Objective: To observe and explore the clinical value of Xiaoqinglong Decoction( XQLD) on lung function and serum cytokines in patients with acute exacerbation of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease( AECOPD).Method: 96 patients with AECOPD in this hospital since June 2011 to May 2014 were selected, 96 patients were randomized divided into two groups, each group contained 48 cases, the observation group was treated with XQLD on the basis of conventional Western medicine treatment, while the control group was treated with conventional western medicine.Lung function including forced expiratory volume in one second( FEV1), forced vital capacity( FVC) and peak expiratory flow( PEF) in patients before and after treatment were measured, as well as interleukin -4( IL-4), interleukin-8( IL-8)and tumor necrosis factor( TNF-α) levels were monitored. Result: The difference of FEV1, FVC, PEF, IL-4, IL-8 and TNF-α before treatment between the two groups was not statistically significant( P<0.05), after treatment FEV1, FVC and PEF in the observation group was( 1.28±0.38)L,( 2.11±0.60)L and( 3.12±1.29)L, and( 1.18±0.28)L,(2.02±0.53)L and( 2.83±1.02)L in the control group, the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05). After treatment, IL-4, IL-8 and TNF-α level in the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group,the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05). The total efficiency of observation group was 91.7%( 44/48), and for the control group was 72.9%( 35/48), the difference was statistically significant( P<0.05). Conclusion: XQLD combined western medicine can significantly improve lung function in patients with AECOPD, relieve inflammation, with a significant effect, thus is a safe and effective therapy for patients with acute COPD.
